Amlu has been a dedicated student of Bharatanatyam, a South Indian Classical dance form, since the age of five. Having professionally trained under guru Smt. Indumathy Ganesh, her skill with this classical style makes her a powerful dancer for Ishaara. Amlu’s dancing is characterized by the dynamic elements of Bharatanatyam– Nritta, or rhythmic movements, and Nritya, the expression of emotions. She is known for having tremendous precision, extremely close attention to detail, and unparalleled discipline in her movements.

Outside of her passion for this classical art form, Amlu grew up rocking to the high-energy beats of Tamil film and folk music alongside her enthusiastic mother. Idolizing dance master Prabhu Deva all of her life, she embraces the unique spirit of South Indian dance styles to this day. Aiming to spread her wings even further, she joined her high school dance team where she was trained in jazz, hip-hop and lyrical.  But it was only after she witnessed the vibrancy and passion of Ishaara in 2007, that Amlu fell in love with Bollywood. Thereafter as captain and lead of UC Berkeley Azaad, Cal’s competitive Bollywood Dance Team, she helped lead them to several victories from 2009-2011, and was even recognized as “Best Female Lead” at Bollywood Berkeley 2010.

Amlu is proud to call Ishaara Dance Company her second family. With her strong technical background, she offers unique insight into the incorporation of classical dance elements into Ishaara Bollywood productions, contributing to the organization’s high level of creativity and originality. With a forever growing passion for her culture, Amlu is excited to help Ishaara showcase South Asian dance across the entire nation.
