Jyoti was born and raised in the Chicago area. She graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2012 and is currently pursuing a Master in Healthcare Administration degree at the University of Minnesota. Jyoti has been involved in dance and the performing arts for most of her life, dancing to Bollywood songs from a young age and learning Odissi classical dance for 8 years. In middle school she joined a colorguard team and learned how to spin and toss flags, rifles, and sabres while incorporating different dance styles including ballet, modern, and jazz into a performance piece. During this time, she competed in the Midwest Colorguard Circuit, performed in a Disney World parade in Orlando, and competed in World Championships with her high school team during her senior year of high school. In college, Jyoti joined the newly established Bollywood-fusion dance team UIUC Fizaa in 2008 and stayed involved with the team until she graduated. Jyoti loved traveling with her Fizaa family to perform at competitions as well as seeing the creativity of other teams in the dance circuit. She became captain and lead of Fizaa, took the team to new heights, and was honored to be named the Best Female Dancer at Bollywood America 2011. Jyoti is excited to continue her passion for dance as a part of Ishaara.
