Pavithra Mohan is a Bay Area native who grew up in Saratoga, CA. She has been trained in Bharatanatyam since the age of four, at the Lasya Dance Academy under Vidhya Subramanian, and she completed her arangetram in 2006. Pavithra left California for the tundra of Chicago and is currently in her last year in the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. From 2009-2011, Pavithra was a member and choreographer of Northwestern’s female fusion team, Deeva Dance Troupe. This experience exposed to her to new dance styles and helped hone her skills in both Bollywood and Bharatanatyam choreography. Her true calling might well be in Kollywood, but Pavithra settled for Bollywood: she joined A-NU-Bhav as Captain and Lead from 2011-2012 and may have given the team permanent whiplash by choreographing one too many hair flips. After graduation, Pavithra hopes to pursue a career in magazine journalism—either in health writing, investigative reporting or creative nonfiction. She is beyond excited to be dancing again and to be a part of Ishaara!
