Anwesh Thakur is a fourth year Bioengineering major at UC Berkeley with a growing passion to learn and explore different forms of dance. Anwesh’s interest in dance was apparent at the young age of seven when he first started learning Bollywood dance. However, as he grew older, Anwesh took the initiative to learn various types of dance on his own, including hip hop and salsa. His exposure to such diversity gave Anwesh the inspiration to start choreographing on his own. At UC Berkeley, Anwesh joined Ishaara as a freshman, and has danced with the team for 4 years. His involvement with competitive dance in the collegiate circuit gave him the unique opportunity to compete in NBC’s hit show “America’s Got Talent,” in 2009. The show took the team to great heights and Anwesh grew along with Ishaara. Since 2009, Anwesh has traveled around the United States to perform with the team. After graduating from UC Berkeley, Anwesh hopes to pursue his interest in dance alongside a career in medicine and technology.
